How Coding Activities Can Help Kids Build Confidence During the December Holidays

The end-of-year holidays can be more than just a much-needed break. It could be the time to explore interests and find new avenues to sharpen and hone them. Moreover, parents feel it’s a good time for their children to do something meaningful during their vacation.

December holiday camps in Singapore are among the most sought-after, especially robotics and coding. Learning about game creation and robots is a fun way to think through and take action to get the results children desire.

Why Try Something Different During the December Holidays?

“All work and no play make Jack a dull boy” is an oft-repeated phrase. A school holiday doesn’t always mean furthering academic interests. At times, it is the time to let children find what excites them and gives them a sense of achievement.

A holiday camp for kids is just a short appetiser for those who are looking to take up a new activity. These camps allow children to see how the games they love and the robots they find fascinating are built. It’s when they get first-hand experience constructing something they love.

The best fit depends on every child’s likes. Some may enjoy creating a virtual world, while others may find making their robot move is fun. Both are ways that give your children a starting point to learn something new.

How Coding and Robotics Turn Ideas into Projects

Coding and robotics offer different ways to explore technology. Coding involves creating instructions that a computer can follow. Robotics combines real construction with mechanisms and, in many activities, programming to make a machine perform a task.

Here are some examples of what children can try.

01

Create a Game

Children can design characters, set rules and build their own simple games using beginner-friendly tools such as Scratch or MakeCode Arcade.

02

Build a Digital World

Children can create their own 3D environments using Minecraft Education or Delightex, making design choices, arranging objects and exploring creative possibilities.

03

Build & Test a Robot Vehicle

Through LEGO Robotics, children explore mechanical design, construction and problem-solving as they build and test their own robot vehicles.

Children can explore programming, design, or engineering based on the activity and their interests.

What Children Learn Beyond Building Projects

Understanding how technology works opens a world children don’t often consider exploring. Learning to code lets them discover there is more to computer games or robots they’ve just seen on TV.

01

Digital Literacy

Children begin to understand how games, digital environments and programmed devices work, rather than simply using them.

02

Structured Thinking

They learn to arrange commands in steps and see how those instructions shape the final result.

03

Engineering Awareness

Building LEGO vehicles shows children how components fit together, how designs affect movement, and how robots perform tasks.

These skills let children build a solid foundation in understanding the technology they see every day.

What Should Parents Look for in a December Holiday Camp?

Not every programme offers the same experience. Consider these factors before choosing holiday camps in Singapore.

  • Activities: Check whether the programme includes building, programming, and testing projects, rather than demonstrations alone.
  • Age suitability: Look for activities appropriate to the child’s age and experience. If your child is new to coding or robotics, ask about qualifications.
  • Support from Trainers: Children often need help understanding directions or solving issues. Small classes make it easier for them to ask questions and receive advice.
  • Schedule: Check the daily timings, number of days, and location based on your family’s holiday plans.

Graphite Academy’s holiday programmes are for children between 6 and 13. The short sessions may work best for families looking for a structured activity without committing to a full day.

How Coding Activities Can Help Children Build Confidence

Stage of the Activity What Children Experience How It Can Build Confidence
01 Exploring an idea
Children decide what they want to create, whether it is a game, a character, or a LEGO model. They learn that their ideas are worth exploring and can become something tangible.
02 Taking the first step
They try a new coding tool, follow instructions, and begin building their project. Completing an unfamiliar first step can make new challenges feel manageable.
03 Making mistakes
A game may not work as expected, or a design may need adjustments. They learn to treat mistakes as part of the process rather than as failure.
04 Finding solutions
They test different approaches, change instructions, and try again. Solving a problem gives them a sense of achievement and encourages independent thinking.
05 Completing a project
They see their initial idea develop into a working game, design or model. Seeing the result of their effort helps them recognise what they can accomplish.
06 Presenting their work
They demonstrate their creation and explain how they made it. Sharing something they have built can help them take pride in their work and communicate their ideas.

Exploring Coding and Robotics at Graphite Academy

Graphite Academy’s November–December 2026 holiday programmes you can look forward to

Marvel-inspired holiday programme

Heroverse: Marvel-Inspired Coding

The Marvel-inspired programme, from 23rd to 25th November, blends pixel art and bead-making with retro game development using MakeCode Arcade and a 3D experience created with Delightex. Children can take home their themed bead keychain.

Pokémon-inspired holiday programme

Pokémon-Inspired Coding Adventure

The Pokémon-inspired programme is scheduled for 30 November–2 December. It has game creation using Scratch, pixel art and bead-making, and 3D world-building with Minecraft Education.

AI LEGO Robotics holiday programme

AI LEGO Robotics Holiday Programme

For children who love construction and engineering, the AI LEGO Robotics programme is from 3rd to 4th December. This programme includes constructing a LEGO vehicle with an attachment and testing it through a race or obstacle challenge. The programme also introduces artificial intelligence, big data and self-driving vehicle concepts.

These sessions run from 9:30 am to 12 noon. Parents must confirm availability, programme requirements and fees directly with the academy before registering.

Give Your Child an Opportunity to Explore

A helpful holiday activity today may not become a long-term interest. It can simply give your child the chance to try something different, discover an interest, and finish a project they are proud to show others.

Coding and robotics offer distinct ways to do that, whether a child enjoys creating games, designing digital environments or building a vehicle.
